New to GIMP?

So you just downloaded a Gimp and are wondering what you should do next.

Best thing you can do first, is to look over your GIMP and do a couple of things with it before adding anything to it like scripts or other plugins.

Check out these couple of pages and just experiment with what you see. You will find the best way to learn things is by experimenting and also Tutorials will often get you to use things you didn't know about before. Then you can let your imagination go wild.

At this present time version 2.10.30 is the latest stable version of GIMP for download.

Gimp is in 17 languages now too

This is the original set-up after you download, install and run it for the first time.

3 windows
Since the 2.8 version has been out there has been the option to make your three windows into one. (Now I think it automatically opens into one window and the main theme is dark grey) It is up to the artist and how much room you have as well.
1 window
I don't have as many tools open but these should be all of them in 2.10. Play with your set up until you get one that is comfortable for you. You can move things around to anywhere almost.
As you get more comfortable with it you may even change it again and depending on what you are doing the most is another reason to change it.
You may like to use keyboard shortcuts (most are shown when you hover over tools) .

If you find you have got your Gimp into a full screen mode you have hit the 'full screen' in view. Unclick it and it will go back to what it was originally
